Sports, Fitness & Recreation
Members are taught skills for all sports and games offered, while also teaching them team work, discipline, and focus.
The Sports, Fitness & Recreation Core Program Area develops fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills. Triple Play – offered at all Club locations is a dynamic wellness program that demonstrates how to eat right, keep fit and form positive relationships for a healthy lifestyle. The goal of the Triple Play program is to improve Club members' knowledge of healthy habits, increase the number of hours per day they participate in physical activities, strengthen their ability to interact positively with others, and engage in positive relationships. Program components include Healthy Habits Nutrition Curriculum, Daily Challenges, Sports Club, Triple Play Games, and Social Recreation. Social Recreation – Social Recreation is essential to the healthy development of children and youth and the program is the heart of the Club's social experience for younger members. In addition to the fun and engagement youth derive from participating in games, contests and other recreational activities, social recreation offers a variety of other important benefits to youth. Social recreation programs include:
Intramural Sports - Seasonally, the Club offers our members opportunities to participate in a variety of sports leagues including flag football, basketball, bombardment, floor hockey, weight lifting, soccer, and lacrosse. For more information about intramurals at our sites, please contact our Program Directors for more information. Rookie League - Rookie league, which is a bridge between t-ball and fast pitch baseball, is an organized league designed to teach youth, ages 9-12, the fundamentals of baseball. Wrestling - A formal wrestling program for youth, established in collaboration with the Nashua School District, is available at the Club's sites. Clinics begin in November with practices and competitive meets running through March. Instruction, clinics, and regular wrestling and weight lifting classes are offered to all interested youth. Northeast New England Area Council Leagues - Club members participate in this league and compete against other Boys & Girls Clubs in our region. Members are invited to try out for teams in sports including volleyball, floor hockey, basketball, soccer, and swimming. Additional league competitions and special events occur for games such as bombardment and gamesroom activities. Weight room - the weight room at Grand Avenue is available for teen Club members to use. Members are required to speak with the Athletic Director before using the equipment. Athletic games - Other sports offered in our Clubs include capture the flag, tag, dodge ball, kickball, and much more! AquaticsDolphin Swim Team - the Club maintains a competitive swim program, which runs mid-September through April. All members, ages 6-18, are invited to try out for the team. Swimmers must be able to swim the distances appropriate for their age groups. Speed is not of the essence, just the desire to want to learn and become a member of the team. NH Aquamarines Synchronized Swim Team - open to all members, ages 6-18, members learn the basics of one of the most skillful, beautiful and demanding aquatic sports. Members are encouraged to participate in local and regional meets. A special beginner synchronized swim program is available for those interested in starting at the beginner level. Summer Swim Camp - Held from mid-June through August, this program introduces those interested to the swim team experience by helping swimmers to learn to improve their strokes, learn about meets and competition, as well as how to become a swim team member. Members are required to be able to pass the Club's swim test to participate. Junior Lifeguard - Members learn important rescue techniques and what to do in various emergencies. Youth work with the Club's lifeguards to learn what life guarding is all about.
