Club teens attend Money 101 workshops with Triangle Credit Union

Keystone members seeing a new side of saving money.

In The Spotlight

Checking accounts, internet banking, identity theft, investments, credit reports, and consumer prospectives are not typical teen speak. Branch Manager, Greg Kennedy, and Business Development Manager, Doug Taylor, are working with Keystone members to increase their education about saving money, jobs in banks and credit unions, personal finance, and preparing for their financial future. Greg said, "Triangle Credit Union is taking an active approach to help educate the youth in the community and help prepare them for the future when dealing with financial matters."

Each Monday at 6:00 p.m., Keystone members either meet with Triangle Credit Union employees at the Boys & Girls Club or their branch on Franklin St. This 8 week course is designed to increase youth knowledge and preparation for the future. Week 1 included a tour of the credit union and a chance to sit down with Executive Vice President, Mark Warner. Greg Kennedy explains that Keystone members "are learning about the basics, like savings accounts, CDs, how to write checks and use a debit card, saving for college, applying for car loans, and how to handle their money." Another week will include sitting down with Triangle Chief Executive Office, Maurice Simard.

Cynthia Martinez states, "I love that Triangle Credit Union is giving teens an opportunity to learn about how to spend and use our money wisely. This is something that will help us as we become older and have jobs." When asked what he thought of the program, Justin Bourque offered this insight: "I love it! This opportunity will benefit me with information that will create less chaos and confusion for both my near future and rest of life. It's a great opportunity that Triangle Credit Union and the Boys & Girls Club has given to us. I think everyone should do it!"

Keystone Advisor Courtney Hosking sees the benefit of this program for the group. "I am really excited about this opportunity, not only for the Club members but also for myself. I feel that the information they share will be valuable for the remainder of our lives." This program will continue another 4 weeks much to the excitement of Greg Kennedy, Branch Manager. "Doug and I truly enjoy the Monday nights that we spend with the kids and we love the enthusiasm they have and the questions they ask."
